The following list will detail the stuff I love or want.
Far Cry 2 - X-box 360
A first person shooter of the highest calibre. Essentially me, crashing round war torn Africa as a mercenary, in pursuit of blood diamonds, which are used to build an impressive arsenal of weopons. After 40 or so hours of gameplay, my reputation is at an all time high, and no enemy village can survive a night assault based on my long range sniper skills (courtesy of the dart rifle), and follow up work based on the powerful MGL-140 (a multiple grenade launcher). Any stragglers are picked off with the Uzi, molotofs or my machete. The legendary Jackal - the arms dealer supplying both sides of the conflict - was dispatched earlier today and it's game over.
I am a winner.
Psychoville:
Written by The League Of Gentlemen's Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, Psychoville is a dark character comedy mystery featuring characters from all over the UK, who each receive a mysterious letter. The series revolves around five different characters from different parts of Britain: David Sowerbutts (played by Pemberton), a serial killer obsessed man-child who still lives with his mother Maureen (Shearsmith); Mr. Jelly (Shearsmith), an embittered one-handed children's entertainer; Oscar Lomax (Pemberton), a blind millionare who collects Beanies; Joy Aston (French), a midwife who treats a practice doll as if it is her real child; and Robert Greenspan (Tompkins), a panto dwarf in love with his Snow White who believes he is telekinetic. All five are connected by a mysterious blackmailer who has sent them a letter each, all of which contains the same message: "I know what you did". As is becoming par for the course for the LoG, the acting is quality, the characters are fascinating, and it's dark and bleak in its humour. I love it!
The brothers Hartnoll are clearly short of cash, or bored, because they're touring again, conveniently celebrating their 20th anniversary since their first recording. Orbital 20 is a pretty good "best of", but they were always at their best when playing live. The Glastonbury release comes with 2 CDs and a DVD and it's good stuff, worth it for the 10 minute "Chime" mix and "Dr Who".
Fuck my life: An amusing website where people detail humiliating and embarrassing incidents, each story starting with "Today...." and ending with "FML". There's an opportunity to vote on whether their life is fucked, or whether they deserved whatever happened to them. Worth a look.
Airweasel: A friend has decided to compete with my site by building a rival helicopter, "Airweasel". I understand that an elastic band, a yoghurt pot and a coat hanger will be used to construct the airframe, with a cereal packet being used for the main rotors. Apparently, the gyro is a bubble spirit level, obtained from a cheap cracker last Christmas.
I'm looking forward to following the build and watching her maiden flight. There may be some issues regarding structural integrity or her airworthiness, but Travis reckons he can overcome the immediate problems. Watch this space.
